Dress Code

Prekindergarten – 6th Grade Dress Code
2012-2013
Students at SOTL are to be neatly dressed at all times.
Parent cooperation is key.
BOYS
  • Pants – any navy, black, brown, or khaki pants or cargo pants. No denim, nylon, or knit (for example, sweatpants).
  • Shorts – any navy, black, brown, or khaki shorts – when weather is appropriate. Shorts must be at least fingertip length. No denim, nylon, or knit.
  • Shirts – any solid color polo, turtleneck, or shirt with collar. Acceptable variations are a small emblem or a SOTL Spirit Wear emblem. Shirts are to be tucked in for Grades 1 through 6.
  • Sweaters – any solid color turtleneck, pullover, or cardigan.  Acceptable variations are a small emblem or a SOTL Spirit Wear emblem.  A dress code shirt is required under pullovers or cardigans. Please no argyle, stripes, or pattern of any type.
  • Sweatshirts- any solid color zip up or pullover with or without hood. Acceptable variations are a small emblem or a SOTL Spirit Wear emblem. A dress code shirt is required under sweatshirts. Please no argyle, stripes or pattern of any type.
  • Socks-  Must be worn at all times. Solid colors only, navy, black, brown, khaki, off-white or white.
  • Shoes – tennis shoes are preferred; dress shoes must permit outdoor activity. Please no dress boots of any type, crocs, wheels, flip flops, open toed shoes/sandals or light up shoes.
  • Belts – Belts must be worn when belt loops are present for grades 2 through 6. Solid colors only, navy, black, brown or khaki. In prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade, belts are optional.
  • Jewelry – Limited to 1 bracelet, 1 ring and 1 necklace.
  • No oversized or sagging/saggy clothing.
  • No tattered or clothes with holes.

GIRLS

  • Pants/Capris – any navy, black, brown, or khaki pants. No denim, low-rise, nylon, or knit (for example, sweatpants or yoga pants).
  • Shorts - any navy, black, brown, or khaki- when weather is appropriate. Shorts must be at least fingertip length. No denim, nylon, or knit.
  • Skorts, skirts, and jumpers – any navy, black, brown, or khaki. Skorts, skirts, and jumpers must be at least fingertip length. No denim.
  • Dresses – must be a solid color polo style dress with collar and must be fingertip length.
  • Shirts - any solid color polo, turtleneck, or blouse with collar. Acceptable variations are a small emblem or a SOTL Spirit Wear emblem. Shirts are to be tucked in for Grades 1 through 6.

  • Tights/leggings – any solid colored white, off-white, navy, black, brown, or khaki.
  • Socks – Knee-high or anklet socks must be worn at all times, unless tights are worn. Solid colors only, navy, black, brown, khaki, off-white or white.
  • Shoes – tennis shoes are preferred; dress shoes must permit outdoor activity. Please no dress boots of any type, crocs, wheels, flip flops, open toed shoes/sandals or light up shoes.

On Fridays, students may wear denim bottoms with a dress code shirt or t-shirts with school logos, such as school musical, STORM run, Girls on the Run, Girls Scouts t-shirts, Jump Rope for Heart.

Scouts: Students participating in scouting programs may wear their uniform on meeting days.

 

If a student is out of dress code, the following consequences will apply.

  • First Infraction – Parent contact by the teacher via notice asking you to review the dress code infraction with your child to clarify the matter with the focus on a second infraction not occurring.

 

  • Second Infraction – Request by the school via notice asking for appropriate substitute clothing to be sent to school on the following day and remain at school until the end of the following month for possible emergency use. If no additional infraction occurs during that time period, the item/items will be returned.

 

  • Third infraction- Conference with the principal, student, and parents.

 

  • Continued violation of the dress code could result in lunch/after school detentions.
