STAR Program

We are very excited to begin an Accelerated Reader incentive program for students in kindergarten and up.  The new STAR (Students Taking Accelerated Reader) Program will give the students an opportunity to earn monthly rewards, classroom rewards, and bronze, silver, or gold medals for the school year.  Medal winners will participate in special STAR events in June.  In addition, all medal winners will receive a special pillowcase (handmade by a friend of Mrs. VanDeven).

Starting on November 14th, children in *K & 1st grade will earn points based on time spent reading or being read to.  *K & 1st graders will keep track of reading time on the STAR Minutes Log & return the sheet weekly.  Children in 2nd-5th grade will earn points by taking computerized AR quizzes.  STAR Progress Reports will be sent home monthly to keep you informed.  Soon, you can watch our STAR students shine on the bulletin board at the main entrance.

The STAR Program is sure to keep the students excited about reading by making it fun and rewarding.  Please encourage your child/children to read the appropriate level AR books from school, home, or the public library.  The website arbookfind.com is a wonderful resource for finding AR books or generating book lists by reading level & subject matter.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or your child’s teacher.

Adrienne Stewart
